PET is an abbreviation for polyethylene terephthalate. PET is a thermoplastic polyester, it melts when heated and it is deformable. A major advantage of PET is that the melting point is relatively high, 255 degrees (MRST , 2015). For the production of a kilo PET approximately 1.9 kilos crude oil is needed. (MRST , 2015) It is a waste to throw this away after a single use. PET is a clear transparent plastic which is strong and very light (1350kg/m3). 30 percent of the total PET production is used for PET bottles (MRST , 2015).
