Set up a functional biogas digester

  • Studying the use, implementation, design and biochemistry of Biogas technology.
  • Contact a company with a proven design
  • Adapting the design to the parameters of our situation. (We are not capable of designing a biogas digester from scratch. So that is why we have to adapt an already proven design to our situation.)
  • Find a contractor for the construction
  • Setting up a contract with a biogas system construction company.

Make the setup of a biogas digester easier for (other) local farmers.

  • Write a business plan for Takatso’s farm
    • Contact suppliers of biogas systems i.e. SimGas, BOTALA, Bio2Watt and Biogas SA. And contact NGO’s in the region, in order that we can use an already proven design of a biogas digester.
    • Contact local farmers, who have already a biogas digester
    • Interview the contacts made by the current group.
  • Writing a general business plan to be used as an example for farmers in the area.
    • Interview Takatso about the best opportunities to network with other farmers. So they know where to go if they need any information about biogas digesters. (e.g. a little talk in the church or billboards)
    • Guided tour at Takatso’s farm for local farmers. During the guided tour the general business plan will be spread out and there will also be some advise about “how to make it easier to apply and receive fundings”. We will therefore set up the information which will be told during the guided tour.

Spread knowledge about biogas digesters with the same scale like Takatso Mofokeng’s project.

  • Educate farmers with presentations and workshops in community halls.
  • Spread our general business plan
  • Organise an event to get farmers in contact with biogas companies.
  • Promote with internet (news websites, community websites, social media), advertisements (in newspapers, magazines), flyers/posters/signs, collaborate with churches.
  • Collaborate with knowledge institutions and their students

The current group is busy writing a feasibility analysis. In collaboration with them we will be writing the business model for Takatso. Therefore, we will do research about the financial aspect (production and customers) of the business case. Once we arrive we will check if our assumptions, which we have made in the business model canvas about the production and possible customers are right and adapt the canvas to the situation. In the next phase we will begin setting up agreements with biogas system design and construction companies.
