Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science & Technology (JOOUST)
The university in Bondo is called after Jaramogi Ajuma Oginga Odinga, he was an important person during Kenya's struggle for independence.
The university is situated in Bondo on the road to Usenge, the university started as a university college but can cal itself a university since 2009. The university is growing and has every year more new first year students. The university has twelve different schools that teach from agriculture, to built environment, and from mathematics to economics. The university intends to be a centre of excellence in training, research and community outreach services offering practical and market oriented courses. The university has explicitly stated in their mission that it wants to provide quality education by a multidisciplinary training and sustainable community outreach programmes.
For our project in Bondo we will work together with the JOOUST, the project fits good in their vision of bringing the students of the universtiy and the farmers from rural areas together. Because we design the course together with both, the students & the farmers, there will be a lot of interaction between the two groups.
The land where the greenhouses are built is owned by the university. They take care of the maintainance of the plot and the greenhouses. There will be a close connection with the university during the research and the development of the course. During the project we will work together with a group of 2nd & 3rd years students of the university.
