Kenya is an overal Christian country, however the east at the border with Somalia is Muslim. We will stay in West-Kenya in the region of Kitale. In this region there are no real threats of rivaling tribes. In Nairobi there were some bombing the last years caused by El Shabab terrorist. Although the situation is now stable in the capital, so we can safely travel by plane.
We will travel by plane to Nairobi. Nairobi can be dangerous because of bombings last year, but we will careful and take cabs from responsible companies to transport us. We arrive with a lot of bagage so we need to keep an eye on that when we arrive.
Later we will travel to Matunda, a village in the rural western part of Kenya, we will stay most of the time within the school area. The school is protected by a fence and security guards. Matunda itself is a small village, where we will go for daily groceries. We will buy bikes in Kitale, so we can go by bike to Moi’s Bridge. The region around this village is stable, but we got tipped not to go outside after dark. 30 miles away from Matunda are two bigger cities: Kitale and Eldoret. These cities (especially Kitale) seem to be relatively more dangerous, especially at night. Eldoret is home to a few better hospitals and markets though.
