Acces to Information

Access to information.

Information is not easily accessible or shared in Ghana. Objective data is hard to find and may be entirely unavailable, or the people who have it may be unaware. There are not many reliable database management systems. There is a huge gap with database information because Ghanaians still rely frequently on oral transmission rather than record keeping. Storing of records and data does not occur to the degree that may be common elsewhere. People are usually hesitant to share what they have unless they know the other person well and/or have permission from a superior. It is also possible in some circumstances that, lacking a relationship or sanction from a superior, an individual may ask for monetary favors before providing information, even if it is their job to provide it.

Communication in Ghana requires personal effort. E-mail, phone calls, and text messages are often insufficient as means to ask for information. Most people want to have a face-to-face meeting in response to a request for information. It is typically necessary to speak in person and then follow up with an e-mail. An e-mail request alone may not even receive a response unless there is a well-established relationship with the other party. (Aperian Global 2015)
