The villages are part of the Uasin Gishu County, one of 47 counties in Kenya. Before the elections in 2013, Kenya had 8 provinces. Uasin Gishy County was part of the former Rift Valley Province. The capital of the county is Eldoret. The distance between the capital city and Matunda is roughly 41 kilometres, about one hour drive. In 2009 the government of Kenya did a national census. According to this the Uasin Gishy County had a population of 894.179. The current governor of the county is Jackson Mandago.

Uasin Gishu County gets its name from the Illwuasin-kishu Maasai clan. The land was the grazing area of the clan. They surrendered the land to the colonial government in the Anglo-Maasai agreement of 1911, and were subsequently pushed towards Trans Mara. The plateau that they once occupied was then registered in its Anglicised version, Uasin Gishu. (The Daily Nation, 2013)

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) and the Society for International Development (SID) carried out extensive research on inequality in Kenya. They reported their finds listed per county. The county statistics of Uasin Gishu can be found below, when you click on the image.
