Political
For a long period of time the political situation in the presidential representative democratic republic of Zambia is stabil. Since 1964 Zambia is independent and introduced a multiparty election system in 1991. Since than five elections were held in a peaceful and democratic way. The current system is comparable to the British parliamentary democracy. The national assembly counts 158 seats and a president. Every five years elections are held and a president can govern the country for two five-year-terms. Different from the western governments, Zambia also has traditional chiefs and their headman. They are highly respected by the Zambian people. However, they have little decision making power in the parliament except when it comes to land distribution.
