Functions of Innovation Systems Analysis

We discuss the different functions of innovation created by van Alphen and apply them on our project

Functions

The contribution of development success in our project can be estimated to look at the functions of innovations. Our project includes the functions of innovations systems who are set up by van Alphen. This because we transfer a technology, namely the carpentry techniques, to the carpentry workshop.

This is the list of eight functions of innovation by van Alphen:

  1. Entrepreneurial activities
  2. Creation of adaptive capacity
  3. Knowledge diffusion through networks
  4. Demand articulation
  5. Market formation
  6. Resources mobilization
  7. Creation of legitimacy/counteract resistance to change
  8. Infrastructure networks

We will discuss every single function and how they participate in our project.

First, the meaning of our project is to make a real running enterprise of the carpentry workshop and turn them into a self-sustainable business, this covers the first function of van Alphen, namely supporting entrepreneurial activities.

Creating adaptive capacity is also a task which is needed to be achieved. We will do this by talking to potential customers and ask them about their needs and wishes and react to there findings.

Knowledge exchange is very important in our project and we will manage this to make folders and brochures about our product. Also with capturing knowledge by documenting it, so it can be transferred to new employees is one of our main goals.

With our marketing plan we want to gain more information about our potential customers and their demand. Market formation and demand articulation are involved in these researches.

We do not really focus on the resources mobilization of the carpentry workshop.

To create legitimacy about the carpentry workshop, we have to listen to all the stakeholders and involve their thoughts and wishes within our activities.

Through our project these functions will always occur.
