The anaerobic breakdown of organic material is called digestion. If a device is primarily designed to accomplish this decomposition, it is called a digestor. If a device is designed to produce biogas, it is called a generator. Basically, generators are more efficient and they produce more biogas. However, for our project, the two terms are used interchangeable.
There are various types of biogas generators. A division can be made between industrial and small scale digestors. The table listed below gives an overview of different types of generators and their characteristics.
