ARO development centre

The ARO development center was founded in the early nineties and is situated in Siaya County of Kenya. It started as a women’s nursery home and maternity hospital. Their mission is to transform lives of the less fortunate in order to fight poverty in any form it occurs. They believe in changes, development and improvement through mutual exchange of ideas, inspiration, human resources and experience. To empower the community of Siaya County they provide development activities such as the training of nurses, weavers and farmers.

Participants come from the surrounding area, eager and motivated to follow the courses. These trainings consist of theoretical and practical modules. We had the opportunity to join a training and experience the Kenyan way of teaching.

We spoke to several farmers about their work and ambitions. For the development of the course, we inquired about their knowledge, skills and capacities on greenhouse farming. Also, an inquiry was made about the advantages and disadvantages of a training center located at the University. This gave rise to differing reactions.
