Dopper bottles

Look around you and you probably see them everywhere. Those colourful kind of oddly shaped plastic bottles. Bottles by the brand Dopper, but why are these bottles so popular?

The Dopper bottle is not only a product from the Dopper foundation, it’s used as a marketing strategy to promote their cause. They literally call it ‘be the messenger.’ But what message  are you carrying?

The Dopper foundation’s mission is to create a world in which people are aware of the environment, in which they reduce the amount of single-use plastic bottles and a world in which every has access to safe drinking water. The main reason for this is the amount of plastic waste produced by everyone, of which only one percent is currently being recycled. On top of that fifty percent of all plastic is thrown away after one use and the worst part about this, is the fact that a large part of this ends up in our oceans. Plastic that’s thrown on the streets, falling into the sewing system, or in the rivers itself.

This results in five large areas in the oceans in which the plastic collects itself; the so called plastic soups. Within these plastic soups, there’s more plastic present than plankton which results in the animals either eating or getting trapped in this waste. On a yearly basis a million birds and a hundred thousand sea animals are killed because of this. On top of that these small plastic particles find their way back into our food system, not only are we poisoning the environment and the animals, we are poisoning ourselves.

The Dopper foundation tries to improve this, by focussing itself on a circular economy. Only certain stores carry this special brand of bottles, once you buy one you support the foundation. You will start to reduce the amount of plastic you throw away yourself and in case something happens with your bottle, you do not have to throw it away. You can take your broken part and bring it to a shop and it will be recycled to create new bottles in their own factory. A part of their net turnover goes to the foundation, that supports water projects in Nepal.

By buying a re-useable Dopper bottle, one does not only reduce the amount of plastic waste one also supports the message. The message of having safe drinking water available. So buy a Dopper, reduce your waste and help spread this message!
