Chapter 3: Transitions are made by people

Transitions are not just about technology. For a transition towards a sustainable future, people will have to interact, engage and ultimately, accept that change is inevitable. As already described in the previous chapters, the entrepreneurial system consists of many involved actors in the value chain. These not only interact among each other in a certain way, but their interactions are developed and shaped by the ongoing trends.

In this chapter some trends in the domain of the sustainable entrepreneurship were analyzed and valued according to their relevance and importance to our future strategy. All of the discussed trends are the ones, we believe, that will have an impact on the development of self-sufficient Texel, especially on its entrepreneurial climate.

First the literature on transitions will be discussed followed by a vast description of the most important trends in the field of entrepreneurism. In the last section the relevance of the trends is discussed as will be implemented in the design pathways in the next chapter.
