EkoPlaza supermarket at Den Burg, Texel

Interview 12 jan 2016, EkoPlaza

After the interview with Hannie van Blaaderen, we can make the following remarks:

  • Locally produced is not the same as Biological or Sustainable. We have to be keen on that these are three different things!
  • The dominant values for consumers to buy local products can be two-fold:

o   It is assumed that quality of local products is higher than imported goods.

o   Due to social cohesion people are willing to buy local goods because they know the origin of the goods and are willing to pay more for local food (gunfactor)

  • Aim of EkoPlaza is to sell biological food and not specifically local food.
  • Hannie is also a producer of local food, but it is too expensive get the SKAL biological quality label for her products.
  • One concept which totally focusses on local food (which could also be biological) is Texelse Kost. Which is now more a platform of supply and and demand of locally produced goods.
  • Way of shopping changes (experience over 30 years):

o   Biological and local food is becoming more and more common

o   People are more and more buying online their convenience goods.

o   People are more aware of what they eat
