BIG: Meet the team

Thanks to the help of these great people we were able to accomplish a lot more than we expected. Here follows a short introduction

 

The team
Dr. Darius Andika

Senior Lecturer

School of Agriculture and Food Sciences.

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science

and Technology (JOOUST).

 

Dr. Darius Andika has been working as a senior

lecturer at JOOUST since 2010. He teaches,

conducts research and guides students in their

postgraduate studies.

Dr. Andika was our support and supervisor for

the project. He was there to give advice and

check up on our progress. Collaboration with

Andika wasn’t on a daily bases, although he

was always interested in our progress. In the

future, we see Andika as a major asset within

the organisation of this project.

 

Mr. Achuti Jackson

Agricultural Officer

Kenya Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and

Livestock, Bondo Sub County

 

Since 2010, Jackson Achuti has been the contact

person for farmers in the county of Siaya.

Within his function he advises farmers and gives

various courses and trainings within the sector

of agriculture.

From the start, Achuti put a lot of time and effort

in our project. Next to his regular job and busy

schedule, Achuti arranged several fieldtrips in

and around Bondo, introducing us to various

farmers, showing us various greenhouses and

water resources.

Besides that, Achuti advised and guided us

during the construction of the greenhouse and

rainwater harvesting system. Also, he spent two

full days developing the course curriculum with

us. Communicating and working with Achuti

was a great success. His contribution had been

a major help for the project and we hope he will

 

Alice Nakhumicha Muriithi

Lecturer

School of Agriculture and Food Sciences.

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science

and Technology (JOOUST).

 

Alice Nakhumicha Murithi has been working as

a lecturer at JOOUST since 2012. Alice is a plant

physiologist, specialised in research and capacity

building on environmental and management

factors that influence crop productivity in the

tropics, specifically flower crops.

At JOOUST, Alice design, develops and delivers

courses in horticulture at various levels. She

creates and transfers interest, understanding

and knowledge amongst students about

horticultural sciences, including practical skills,

methods and techniques.

Alice assisted us with providing recourses for

developing the course. She also gave us advice

and suggestions concerning our plans and ideas.

Overall, she is friendly and generous lady with a

positive attitude.
