Future perspective

Guessing that nobody can look in the future, the only thing left to do is to create a list that can sum up what is wanted from the future. In this section of the report the future perspective is sum up. Think of what can be expected from the TAHMO weather data and modules. What is Farmerline going to do with data of TAHMO weather stations and will they grow? How will Cocobod interact to the TAHMO weather data? Will LBCs and farmers still be active in the customer segment of Farmerline? Will the farming live change of Ghanaian cocoa farmers change, and what impact will all those aspects have on the future of Ghana and the cocoa industry? This section will provide all the answers to these questions.

Long term effect future perspective of the stakeholders will be discussed in this section

TAHMO

The minor group was not able to interact with the weather modules created by TAHMO. In the first phase of enrolment of the weather modules there can be small errors, this will be solved immediately by TAHMO. In the future the TAHMO weather data and modules will be more precise compared to the initial phase. This will have effect on the whole customer segment of Farmerline.

Farmerline

By adding the precise weather data and weather modules to their existing services Farmerline can stand out. Farmerline can also scale the effect of the TAHMO weather data on the cocoa farmers and calculate how much the effect is on cocoa farming using their weather services. By doing this they can show actual hard numbers when gathering new customers. This will lead to more grow.

Cocobod

The need of Cocobod is that they want weather modules and weather data to simulate the weather for the whole of Ghana. Cocobod sells cocoa in advance to international buyers. If however, it occurs that due to unforeseen weather circumstances the yield is too low and Cocobod sold too much cocoa on the international market they will have financial loss. By cooperating with TAHMO, Cocobod is able to know exactly how much cocoa they can sell and gather from their local market, which lead to no loss. This is a future perspective.

LBCs

In the future, if almost all the LBCs are client of Farmerline, all the LBCs will know with use of MERGdata how much cocoa is gathered from the farmers. Also the LBCs are able to scale in a timely period how much extra cocoa is gathered using MERGdata. Also LBCs will be able to know exactly how many acres of farms their farmers have.

Cocoa farmers

With use of the services of Farmerline, farmers are able to farm more efficiently. Looking in the future, farmers will be able to know how much more cocoa they have farmed with use of the services of Farmerline. Producing more cocoa, farmers have more cocoa bags to sell to their LBC and make more money. By knowing more about how much they produce they are able to set goals and maybe even want to farm more and more efficient to get more cocoa and more money.

This also means that farmers have more money, and their lives have improved financially. Maybe in the future, the farmers will not be poor. Currently the cocoa farmers belong tot he poorest people of Ghana, this can be read in the preliminary business model. Looking in the future and with use of all the extras that is provided by TAHMO and Farmerline, farming cocoa will be a thing that is done by happy people.  Also if it becomes something that delivers money to people, more people want to do it. The unemployment in Ghana is high. This all could create job opportunities for the youth to be a farmer instead of going to the cities.

What can other minor groups do?

Farmerline already does a lot on their own. There is no need that another minor group comes to Farmerline to further develop anything in the cocoa industry. It is maybe possible that they do research in another product group, something like investigating products like rice, maize, vegetables, fish of other crops.  What is probably more efficient is that other minor groups will do something with the TAHMO weather data. During the minor groups stay the TAHMO weather data was not available, therefore this minor group was not able to do anything with the weather data of TAHMO. Maybe other minor groups in the future go to schools and teach Ghanaian children of climate change and what effect it has on their way of living. Also teach them about the technical aspects of the TAHMO weather station.

For the next time when another minor group arrives at Farmerline, there are some things to note in a start-up company. First of all, when there is need to talk to some Farmerline employees, you should ask if the employee has some time to answer the questions. Also when there are some things not clear, just ask and let people know what your struggle is. In a start-up company everybody is doing their own business and they are really busy.

What could Farmerline do?

By adding the precise weather data and weather modules to their existing services Farmerline can stand out. Farmerline can also scale the effect of the TAHMO weather data on the cocoa farmers and calculate how much the effect is on cocoa farming using their weather services. By doing this they can show actual hard numbers when gathering new customers. This will lead to more grow.

For the next time when another minor group arrives at Farmerline, Farmerline should do some of their things different. These things will help collaborate to a better interaction between Farmerline and the minor group. First of all, Farmerline should be clearer where the minor group stands. This means that the minor group should know where they stand in the company, their tasks, their way of communicating with Farmerline crew and the way of how the company works. This will help to create a clear view for the minor group of how Farmerline works.
