Kenya: Construct a greenhouse, start a course on greenhouse farming and write a businessmodel about greenhouse rental, Bondo

At Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, in Bondo - Kenya, experiments and research have been conducted on the improvement of technology and capacity of smallholder farmers in the surroundings. A greenhouse has been built and it should now function as a training center for students from the University and groups of farmers in the neighborhood.

As many areas in Kenya, the Bondo district in Siaya County suffers from different problems. Although the area near Lake Victoria is more humid than the inland, the Bondo region has suffered from large periods of drought and a low production on average. That is why the University in Bondo, the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), in cooperation with Students for Sustainability, has built its first greenhouse. With this greenhouse, many problems can be tackled at once. The first greenhouse gives room for special courses organized by the University to teach farmers the best way to cultivate their land. At the moment, the next step is to build another greenhouse that can be rented to small farm holders. A business model will be set up for this. Next to this, the water supply for the greenhouse is very important but not thought about before. Thus, this will be the second task of this project.
