Our project was inspired by a project two group members have participated during the previous summer. Two of our group members went to Nairobi, Kenya in summer 2014 as volunteers and were motivated to finance a project upon their return in Summer 2015. They were advised by experts in the field that, their is a need for support of youths in the urban areas of Kenya, our project coordinator Isaac Mwangi advised them that the biggest challenge is to battle youth unemployment. Many NGOs support the most needy and vulnerable in the society; women, HIV/AIDs patients and orphans. Nevertheless, a group of the population segment that has the biggest potential to contribute to a country's labour force are the youths aged 18-24, of which many are without education and good job prospects. Moreover, they are such a big part of the population that they are often overlooked in small developmental projects.
This situation motivated our two group members to recruit some unemployed youths and support a start up financially. Isaac advised us to support something with potential but also within our financial capabilities. He informed us that many of the youths he would advise us to recruit are interested in artistic creative projects. In addition to this, he himself made great profit in having an arts and crafts business to finance his university fees and it resulted to be widely successfully. We therfore decided to restart his business under his management and it is now running successfully. The wooden belts were a result of this business which are now taking to the next level
