We are going to Kisumu, Kenya. Kisumu is the third biggest city in Kenya with around 400.000 inhabitants and is located in Western Kenya on the Victoria Lake.
The main religions in Kenya are Christianity or Islam. On the street you see a lot of their beliefs into people's clothing or buildings. It is appropriate to wear suitable clothes when you go on the streets. This means covered clothing an behave like the standards of the population.
Hierarchy is an important concept whithin the Kenyan population. It is important to show respect to older people or people with more authority than you.
In general, Kenya always was one of the moste stable countries in Afrika. But the last few years there have been more political incidents. After the elections there were several violent confrontations between different tribes in Kenya. In recent years there occasionally have been attacks set up by Somali terrorist groups, especially in the North East of Kenya.
Where we are going to perform our project is in the outskirts of Kisumu. Kisumu is a fairly safe city.
The map below shows us that Kenya is mostly considered as a safe country. The yellow fields indicates that you have to take some safety preparations but it's safe enough to go there.
