- Way of dressing: In Kenya it is not appreciated when clothing is too revealing. At any time of the day, it is necessary to dress yourself reasonably covered, even though it is very hot.
- Interacting with others: In Kenya, respect for others is very important, especially for the elderly and people with more authority (e.g. police). So we will never try to get into a discussion with these people.
- Home before dark: It is necessary to be home before dark in the area of SRI.
- Stay together: It is not the intention that anyone is going out alone, if this is nevertheless necessary, the others always should know where that person is and when he or she plans to come back.
- Important information: Everyone must at all times carry important information on paper with them. These are emergency numbers, health-card, ID, contact information, contact persons in Kenya and the Netherlands.
- Mobile: It is important that everyone has a mobile phone that is accessible (charged) so they can be contacted at any time.
- Cultural differences: Kenyan people handle things differently than we. We must keep this in mind and above all not be impatient. In Kenya, it all goes a lot slower than we are used to.
- Think: Always think for yourself. We are with the three of us so sometimes you just follow each other but always make sure you stand up for what you believe is right.
- Social Media: No weird photos or post comments on social media. Also do not take unsolicited pictures of locals (and post these on social media).
