Katie Froeling

I am a 21 year old Industrial Design Engineering student at the TU Delft. This year I started my minor, International Entrepreneurship & Development, at System Engineering, Policy Analysis and Management.

For my project I will be going to Okana, a small town near Kisumu. There I will help bring structure at a local carpentry workshop. Also will we increase the amount of orders, by expanding their customer network. Overall we will try to get the carpentry workshop run better.

Being half Dutch and half Irish, I was exposed to different cultures at a young age. This triggered me to do this minor, because I find it fascinating to learn about other cultures and their habits. I can't wait to go to Kisumu and experience the world from a whole new point of view!

Update 6

We have provided all the carpenters of SRI with new work clothes. Also SRI has a new gate and sign, which we also organized. We can already see a lot of improvements towards the awareness of SRI

Update 5

We have started a sales manager trial. Fabian will go to Kisumu, and search for new customers. In the first week it has already showed some positive results. He has found 5 new customers who are willing to place orders in the amounts of 10-13 units. These orders are yet to be confirmed.

Yesterday we did some market research. We went to Kibuye Market, this is the local market where people buy all their furniture. You could call it 'the Dutch Ikea'. Here we interviewed some carpenters and gained some information for our project.

Update 3

Last week we showed some of our products at a local festival. We had our own stand and we even sold some products! It was a great way to create some positive awareness for the carpentry workshop.
