GFB Project structure of the greenhouses for Bondo project

Although the area near Lake Victoria is more humid than the inland, the Bondo region has suffered from large periods of drought and a low production on average. That is why the University in Bondo, the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), in cooperation with Students for Sustainability, has built its first two greenhouses.

With these greenhouses, many problems can be tackled at once. The first greenhouses give room for special courses organized by the University to teach farmers the best way to cultivate their land. At the moment, the next step is to build more greenhouses that can be used by small farm holders. A plan will be set up for this. Next to this, the water supply for the greenhouses is very important but not thought about before. Thus, this will be the second task of this project. In the paragraphs below, three main focus points of this internship will be discussed.

There are three different parts:

  1. Researching water sources and building a water supply system for the greenhouses at the University
  2. Greenhouse usage by the local farmers (in cooperation with the other Bondogroup)
  3. A long term plan for our successors

In order to do all the research necessary for the project, an assessment of cultural dimensions and values needs to be made.
